The Chicago Blackhawks were due for some luck on their side.
After failing to make the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the second-straight season, they received that luck on Tuesday night during the 2019 NHL Draft Lottery.
The Blackhawks entered the lottery slotted at No. 12 with the fourth-worst odds and 8.2 percent chance at a Top 3 pick Tuesday night but they left with a miracle. Chicago moved up from No. 12 to No.3 in the NHL Draft Lottery, giving them the third overall pick in the draft.
The New Jersey Devils earned the No. 1 overall pick followed by the New York Rangers at No. 2.
But the Blackhawks are one of the biggest stories of the night and it comes at a crucial time for the franchise. During another disappointing season, they refused to tank and instead made two late playoff pushes before falling short.
Now they get the chance to land a very talented player at No. 3 overall to add to their core.
The Blackhawks have picked No. 3 in the NHL Draft before and the last time they had the pick back in 2006, they drafted Jonathan Toews. Both Eddie Olczyk and Denis Savard were also drafted in those slots.
