The Chicago Bulls had a small streak of sorts going their way entering the new year. The Bulls won back-to-back games to end December.
That streak ended on Jan. 1.
The Chicago Bulls lost to the worst team in the Eastern Conference
The Bulls traveled to Caprial One Arena to play the Washington Wizards on Wednesday night. The Wizards had a 5-25 record before playing Chicago. Four of those wins came in Washington.
The Wizards took a 55-51 lead into halftime. Washington pulled away in the second half, outscoring the Bulls by seven points in each of the final two quarters en route to a 125-107 win in front of 16,298 fans.
Per ESPN BET, the Bulls were 6.5-point favorites to beat the Wizards.
The Wizards were led in scoring by 25-year-old shooting guard Jordan Poole. Pool went 6-of-13 from behind the arc for 30 points. He went 10-of-21 on field goals.
Coby White and Josh Giddey could have played better
Bulls shooting guard Zach Lavine led Chicago in scoring with 32 points. He was 3-of-8 in three-point attempts and 12-of-20 on field goals. Coby White and Josh Giddey had rough nights. White was a -22 and Giddey was a -17 in the 18-point loss.
The Bulls fell to 15-19 after the defeat. They hold the Eastern Conference’s 10th-best record, two games above the Philadelphia 76ers for the final spot in the play-in tournament. Washington improved to 6-25 (the conference’s worst record).
The Bulls blew a chance to earn a win against a relatively easy opponent to help their chances of making the postseason.
The Bulls’ next matchup is against the New York Knicks (24-10) at the United Center on Saturday at 7 p.m. CT.
