The Chicago Bulls needed to win just one game in Boston to have a shot in the series.
But they did more than just win one game. They won the first two against the top-seeded Celtics on the road.
Chicago’s 111-97 win on Tuesday night helped them grab a 2-0 series lead and accomplish something only one other team has done in NBA history.
The Bulls became the first No. 8 seed to go up 2-0 on a No. 1 seed in NBA playoff history since the first round format expanded from 5 games to 7. They also become just the second No. 8 seed all-time to go up 2-0 on a No. 1 seed.
The Los Angeles Lakers went up 2-0 on the Phoenix Suns in 1993, but the Suns eventually won the next three and reached the NBA Finals.
Tuesday’s effort was once again led by Jimmy Butler and Dwyane Wade who both scored 22 points. Center Robin Lopez added 18 and rookie Paul Zipser finished with 16 points.

Although Chicago has a 2-0 lead, the series is far from over. Boston is a No. 1 seed for a reason and one win has them right back in it.
The Bulls look to go up a commanding 3-0 when they host the Celtics at the United Center on Friday.
