According to Y! Sports, the Chicago Bulls are the frontrunners to land SF/SG Mike Dunleavy Jr. Sides are discussing a deal of 2-years worth 6 million and the deal appears to be close. The deal could be completed at any time now.
Dunleavy played for the Milwaukee Bucks last season and is 32-years old. Dunleavy would likely come off the bench and give Luol Deng, Jimmy Butler much needed rest during games. Dunleavy is 6’9″ and 230 pounds.
Last season, Dunleavy played in 75 games (3 starts) and averaged a little over 25 minutes per game. Dunleavy added 10 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists per game last season.
To be honest, I’m not a fan of the signing. I seen Dunleavy play a lot last year since he played for the Bucks. He did have his moments, but not the signing you would like to see in the headlines. The Bulls can only hope he turns into what Nate Robinson and Marco Bellinelli were last year. This is the kind of signing you see when your team has no cap space.
I also think 3 million per year is a little too much and other options could be available. He did have a market and why it’s likely the Bulls pushed up their pursuit of Dunleavy. The Bulls will use the mid-level exception on Dunleavy.
The deal is not yet finalize, but from the looks of it, Dunleavy will be wearing a Bulls uniform next season.
