DeMar DeRozan/Zach LaVine
LaVine 2021-22 Stats: 67 games played, 24.4 points, 4.5 assists, 4.6 rebounds per game
DeRozan 2021-22 Stats: 76 games played, 27.9 points, 4.9 assists, 5.2 rebounds per game
While it’s not likely Coach Donovan will slide one of his two stars as the starting point guard spot, it would not be a complete shocker to see either of them run the point guard position in order to make some plays. Chicago has plenty of depth at the point guard position, but with swingmen such as Patrick Williams, Javonte Green, and Dalen Terry all competing for minutes, we could potentially see DeRozan or LaVine bring the ball down the court if one of the players mentioned on this list do not step up and earn the starting role.
Let us hope that either Dragic, White, Caruso, or Dosunmu answer the call to start off the new NBA season for the Bulls to stay competitive in the Eastern Conference. When it came to the assist leaders on the team last season, the leaders were: Ball (5.1 apg.), DeRozan (4.9 apg.), LaVine (4.5 apg.), and Caruso (4.0 apg.). With the continued absence of Ball, the Bulls will need to move the ball more in order to find better looks for their scorers throughout the season.
Ball’s last game played for Chicago was back on January 14th, 2022, so the team has played numerous games without him and was able to stay afloat to land the sixth seed in last year’s playoffs. Entering this season without Ball as their starting point guard, the Bulls will also have the opportunity to see which of its point guards will step up to take the starting job when they faceoff against the Toronto Raptors on Tuesday, October 4th.
They will also have two more preseason games prior to the start of the regular season to figure out their backcourt rotation (vs. Nuggets Friday, October 7th, and Raptors on Sunday, October 9th).
