The Chicago Bulls season has not been going as fans had hoped it would.
Sitting at 19-25 and currently tenth in the Eastern Conference standings, the Bulls finally ended their recent five-game losing streak with a dominating 112-99 victory over the LA Clippers.
Even though the season as a whole may seem all doom and gloom and stars like Zach LaVine and Nikola Vucevic could be off the roster after next month’s trade deadline, one Bulls rookie in Matas Buzelis did provide some bit of excitement for fans.
Chicago Bulls rookie to compete in NBA Dunk Contest
Amid mediocrity, the Bulls did have some exciting news come out with the announcement of the Bull’s 20-year-old rookie Matas Buzelis set to compete in this year’s NBA Dunk Contest per ESPN Senior NBA Insider Shams Charania.
“Chicago Bulls rookie Matas Buzelis has committed to be in the Slam Dunk Contest at NBA All-Star Weekend, sources tell ESPN. Dunk contest will feature two high-flying, first-year players in Buzelis and San Antonio’s Stephon Castle.”

The Chicago native was drafted by the Bulls in the first round (11th overall) in last year’s NBA Draft. For the season Buzelis is having a respectable rookie campaign playing in 42 games for the Bulls averaging 4.9 points, 2.6 rebounds, .4 assists, and shooting 37.6% from the field. Buzelis will be the first Bulls player to partake in the dunk contest since Tyrus Thomas in 2007.
Participants and when is the dunk contest?
So far the only players to commit to compete in the dunk contest are Buzelis and the Spurs Stephon Castle.
The dunk contest will take place during All-Star weekend this year on Saturday, Feb. 15.

Hopefully the tall and athletic forward can put on a show and win the contest and bring home that trophy to possibly light a spark under the Bulls moving forward.
