The Chicago Bulls have made their first move in the free agency period as they agreed to a deal with point guard Rajon Rondo.
The news broke Sunday afternoon with The Undefeated’s Marc Spears first reporting it. Rondo has agreed to the two-year deal worth $28 million, but cannot sign the contract until July 7.

At 30-years-old, Rondo is now on his fourth team in the past two seasons but will likely be Chicago’s starter and replacement for Derrick Rose. Rondo averaged 11.9 points and 11.7 assists with the Sacramento Kings in 2015-16.
His 11.7 assists per game were the most in the NBA.
Rondo could create an interesting dynamic with Jimmy Butler in Fred Hoiberg’s offense. The Bulls moved on from Rose because he and Butler could not co-exist in the offense. Rondo on the other hand offers a different skillset as a pass-first point guard.
The Bulls offseason has now included adding Rondo, trading Rose for Jerian Grant, Robin Lopez and Jose Calderon.
