The Chicago Cubs announced new manager Rick Renteria’s coaching staff today. All of the positions have been filled, besides 1st base coach. We do not know who will be the 1st base coach for next season. The Cubs officially retained some coaches and hired new guys.
Chris Bosio will return as the pitching coach, Lester Strode will return as the assistant pitching coach/bullpen coach, Mike Borzello will return as the catching/strategy coach (new title) and Franklin Font will return as the staff assistant. According to reports a few weeks back, Bosio has returned on a 2-year contract.
The Cubs stole ex Cub and Boston Red Sox Bill Mueller from the Los Angeles Dodgers. Mueller is now the new hitting coach. He was a scout with the Dodgers.
Other hires: Brandon Hyde will be the new bench coach (was in Cubs front office as Director of Player Development), Mike Brumley will be the Cubs assistant hitting coach, Gary Jones will be the new 3rd base/infield coach and Jose Castro will be the team’s quality assurance coach.
Front office change-up: Jaron Madison will take Hyde’s sport as the Director of Player Development. Matt Dorely, whom was the Cubs regional crosschecker, replaces Madison as the Director of Amateur Scouting.
