Bleacher bums rejoice!
The Chicago Cubs have announced (again) that the left field bleachers will be ready to go and will open up on Monday, May 11 against the New York Mets.
The Cubs released a press release this morning officially making the announcement. When the bleachers open up it will be to expanded capacity of 500 people including two standing room sections on the new left field porch. The left field porch is designed for group outings and includes a beverage package. The sections will be called “The Well” and “The Porch” and can accommodate up to 150 people.
A new concession area with expanded walkways will also be available for fans. The team announced that there will be more room to purchase concessions with the project including right field when it opens. Construction crews will continue to work underneath the bleachers during game days and will try to minimize the noise levels as much as possible. Bathrooms underneath the bleachers will all be open to accommodate fans, despite problems on Opening Night inside the stadium.
