Birdsell, a 2022 draft pick by the Cubs and first time non-roster invitee to big league camp, is dealing with a LAT strain. According to manager Craig Counsell, he recently underwent an MRI that revealed a grade 1 injury. He still has a good prognosis to pitch in April, but the recovery period includes three to four weeks of no throwing and then progressing from there.
“So, it was three to four weeks no throwing and then we’ll progress. So, overall, good news. It’s a little more significant than some of the other guys, but you could absolutely see him pitching in April again.”
