The Cubs will definitely need to add a lefty bat to their lineup. This is a big reason for leading the Cubs back to Rizzo.
Rizzo spent the large majority of his MLB career with the Cubs. His time in Chicago saw the Cubs bring a World Series Championship to Chicago in 2016. He also became a pillar of the community. Fans in Chicago would surely welcome him back with open arms.
The Cubs are also said to be interested in another former player that was once considered a core piece, Kyle Schwarber.
Schwarber would also help fill the Cubs’ need of a lefty bat for their lineup. David Kaplan had this report on Tuesday evening as well.
Schwarber and Rizzo were beloved by fans during their time in Chicago. These two possible signings wouldn’t just be for the nostalgia purposes. Their abilities would greatly meet the needs of the Cubs’ lineup. The newly introduced National League DH gives the Cubs more lineup flexibility. With the emergence of first baseman Frank Schwindel, the Cubs will the capacity for both Rizzo and Schwindel.
The Cubs have yet to make any blockbuster deals since free agency resumed on March 10th. Although, one of these lefties would be welcomed sight for Cubs fans.
