The Chicago Cubs finally had something go right for them this year … RP Michael Bowden cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Iowa. The Cubs designated Bowden for assignment on Tuesday of last week to make room for Matt Garza on the roster. And the Cubs didn’t have to DFA Bowden because Shawn Camp was placed on the 15-day DL the next day. Plus, Camp was injured on Sunday and could have been placed on the DL Tuesday for Garza. Instead of possibly losing Bowden to another team
I’m actually very surprised Bowden was not claimed by a team. Bowden looked great to end last season and hasn’t been too bad this season. Yes, he had his struggles, but most pitchers do throughout the season. Bowden is still young and has a live arm.
Bowden will see the majors again the year and may be sooner than later. If Alex Burnett struggles and gets DFA, he may be the call-up or if the Cubs trade a RP, he may get the call. So, we will see Bowden in Chicago sometime in the near future.
I’m happy to say the Cubs did catch a break and all 29 other teams will regret not putting in a claim for Bowden.
