The Chicago Cubs have waited since 2008 to return to the postseason. They won’t have to wait any longer.
With the San Francisco Giants 5-4 loss in Oakland on Friday night, the Cubs have clinched a spot in the postseason. The Cubs magic number is down to zero and they will at least play in the NL Wild Card Game come October 7th.
The Cubs currently trail the Pittsburgh Pirates by 4.5 games for home field in that Wild Card Game entering Saturday’s matchup between the two teams. With 10 games left to play, Chicago will need a big run to catch Pittsburgh and host the game.
Still it’s a reason for Cubs fans to celebrate. Now with a young team, the Cubs are hoping to end the World Series drought and they will end September with the chance.
Here’s some reaction via Cubs players on Twitter:
It's official. Playoffs. Now we go.
