The Chicago Cubs will be without a key relief pitcher for the 2022 season. Reliever Codi Heuer posted a photo on his Instagram Tuesday morning indicating that he just underwent successful Tommy John surgery. He will end up missing the entire 2022 season.
Well this doesn't look good. All the best to Cubs reliever Codi Heuer on the recovery. pic.twitter.com/Ch96YkW46h

Heuer was acquired during last season’s trade deadline from the Chicago White Sox and is believed to be a key piece for the bullpen. Nick Madrigal is also a player the Cubs traded for that is still recovering from injuries himself.
Both Heuer and Madrigal are young players that should be key contributors down the road, but this is certainly not good news for the Cubs. However, with the 2022 MLB season still in question, this would be the best time for Heuer to get his arm right.
Heuer has a career 3.56 ERA, with 81 strikeouts in 91 innings pitched. He also has 10 wins and 4 losses to go with a 1.3 WAR.
In his limited playing time with the north siders, Heuer pitched well, posting a 3.14 ERA in 28.2 innings pitched.
