The Chicago Cubs have designated pitcher Clayton Richard for assignment and recalled pitcher Yoervis Medina from Triple-A.
#Cubs DFA Clayton Richard and call up Yoervis Medina from Triple-A Iowa to strengthen bullpen for today's doubleheader in Cincinnati.

The Cubs undoubtedly benefit from the extra bullpen arm, but they also don’t benefit from the lack of starting pitching depth –something they have long been speculated to be looking for in the trade market. Even though the Cubs reportedly hope Richard stays in the organization, the willingness to designate him seems to point to something brewing trade wise. That’s not exactly surprising given all the rhetoric from inside and outside of the organization, but it still presents the first piece of solid evidence that the Cubs know someone else is on the way soon.
The question remaining to be answered is who exactly that is.
