The Chicago Cubs are close to acquiring center fielder Dexter Fowler from the Houston Astros according to a report by Bruce Levine.
The speculation of Fowler to the Cubs began last week and now the Cubs look like they may have their guy. In return, the Cubs will give up infielder Luis Valbuena and minor league pitcher Dan Straily. The Cubs acquired Straily in a trade with the Oakland Athletics in July.
Fowler gives the Cubs a nice everyday center fielder to roam the outfield with Jorge Soler and a platoon of others including Chris Coghlan and Arismendy Alcantara. He spent 6 seasons with the Colorado Rockies and just one season with the Houston Astros. Fowler is a career .271 hitter with a .366 OBP.
