The Chicago Cubs are playing like one of the better teams in baseball and are the best in the National League Central, holding the top spot and having a game-and-a-half lead over the Cincinnati Reds.
The Cubs are playing a rigorous schedule, and won’t get a reprieve until the 29th when they play the Pittsburg Pirates for a three-game series.
One team in the Central that could be an interesting team to watch along with the Cubs is the St. Louis Cardinals, who are off to a better start to the year than most people thought they would be.
This hot start should be a welcome sign to Cardinals fans, but one Cardinals player appears to be pleading for fans to come out to the ballpark.
Chicago Cubs’ divisional foe is pleading for fan support

Fans have not shown up to Cardinals games this season as they did little during the off-season to get them excited for this year.
The Cards are 8-8 to begin the season and are third in the Central. This unexpected start to the year should draw fans to the ballpark, but they’re not showing out in the droves that the Cardinals are accustomed to.
The Cardinals had 47,395 come out for Opening Day and since then those numbers have steadily declined.
Wilson Contreras, a former Cub, and the Cardinal’s first basemen, in one of his postgame scrums, pleaded with fans to come back out to the ballpark, saying “We play for you guys”.

The lowest attendance for the Cardinals this season came on April 2nd against the Los Angeles Angels, where 20,309 fans showed up, which is not what they’re used to.
Part of what drives players to do well and perform is the crowd noise. The Cardinals not having the roar they’re used to could affect their play.
This benefits the Cubs

This is super beneficial to the Cubs, who need to beat up on weaker teams in the division like the Cardinals to end their playoff drought.
The Cubs won’t play the Cardinals until June when they travel to St. Louis for a four-game series from the 23rd to the 26th.
The Red Birds won’t come to Chicago until the beginning of July when they play a three-game set from the 4th to the 6th.
By then, the Cubs will have a better idea of what kind of team the Cardinals will be and if they will give them tough competition.
