It’s cold. There’s snow on the ground in Chicago and the Bears are out of the playoffs. That’s a sign that baseball season can’t come soon enough for Chicago with pitchers and catchers reporting in just over a month.
As the Cubs head into what should be another exciting year on the Northside, they continue to receive some praise from national media members. On Wednesday, ESPN MLB insider Buster Olney revealed his top 10 infields for the upcoming 2016 season and right there at the top are the Chicago Cubs.
Olney writes:
Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo finished 10th in National League MVP voting in 2014 and fourth last year. Third baseman Kris Bryant was the NL Rookie of the Year, after reaching base 230 times in his first 151 big league games. Addison Russell and the Cubs thrived after he took over at shortstop and established a more consistent defensive presence at the most important infield position.

Here’s another thing about this group: The players are all similar in personality and professionalism, and even if they weren’t the best group of infielders — which they are — they would have a great experience playing together.
Even trading away second baseman Starlin Castro, the Cubs still have one of the best infields in all of baseball. Olney doesn’t include Javier Baez either, who is another big bat and good glove Joe Maddon can insert into the lineup.
Theo Epstein and company told Cubs fans to be patient for years and it’s finally starting to pay off. Now can it be Opening Day yet?
