On Thursday night rumors swirled that the Chicago Cubs had purchased two contracts from Triple-A Iowa, causing some speculation as to what moves were coming.
Now on Friday we know exactly what’s going on.
Cubs beat writer Carrie Muskat is reporting that starter John Lackey and reliever Hector Rondon are headed to the 15-day DL:
Looks like Lackey and Rondon headed to DL. Zastryzny and Pena to be called up. #Cubs

Lackey left Sunday’s start against the Cardinals in the 7th inning with some discomfort in his right shoulder. Rondon made his first appearance in a few games on Sunday after dealing with sore triceps. He gave up a few runs as the Cardinals came back to win the game.
Don’t panic though Cubs fans. Muskat says the moves are precautionary and neither player had a setback.
Gordon Wittenmyer has the corresponding moves for the Cubs:
Cubs expected to call up Rob Zastryzny and Felix Pena from minors with Lackey and Rondon going on DL as Cubs take cautious approach.

Zastryzny is expected to make a start next week to fill in for Lackey.
