According to reports, the Chicago Cubs have signed 1st round pick 3B/OF Kris Bryant. The Cubs have signed him to slot value and he’ll recieve the bonus of 6,708,400. Bryant recieved the largest bonus in the draft surpassing number 1 overall pick Mark Appel of the Houston Astros (6.3 million). The deal isn’t finalized yet, but should be in the next day or so. Bryant only has to pass a physicial and then the Cubs will make the deal official.
People thought the Cubs may not reach a deal with Bryant, but in reality, the Cubs were not going to let Bryant slip through their hands. Bryant was by far the best hitter in the draft and one with the highest ceiling. I think people just got nervous that they wouldn’t sign Bryant because the report that came out saying; “Cubs and Kris Bryant not close to a deal.”
Bryant will jump into the Cubs top 5 prospects and possibly at 4, behind Javier Baez, Jorge Soler and Albert Almora. Bryant played 3B in college, but could be moved to the OF. The Cubs could have a outfield by 2016 of Soler, Almora and Bryant. That would be so nice if it does come to plan.
Bryant could be at Wrigley Field this weekend, per Bruce Miles.
Now that the Cubs concluded the Bryant situation, they can worry about just trades!
