The Chicago Cubs have recalled right-handed relief pitcher Yoervis Medina from Triple-A Iowa and have placed lefty Zac Rosscup on the Disabled List. Rosscup had to leave Tuesday’s game vs. the Indians due to shoulder inflammation.
Medina was acquired in a deal that sent Welington Castillo to the Seattle Mariners last month. The 26-year-old has some issues with his command, walking 75 batters in 137 innings between 2013 and this year. He’s posted a 2.82 ERA and a 1.336 WHIP in that span.
After being acquired by the Cubs, Medina was sent to Triple-A where he posted a 4.63 ERA and a 1.886 WHIP in 10 appearances. The Cubs are looking for help for its bullpen that has struggled at times this season.
Schwarber in lineup
Cubs fans will get another look at prospect Kyle Schwarber who will be in the starting lineup for the first time tonight. The 22-year-old catcher made his Major League debut Tuesday, striking out in his only plate appearance.
Schwarber will be the team’s DH in Cleveland and bat sixth on Wednesday. It’s very likely Schwarber will DH every the next four games, one more in Cleveland and three in Minnesota. He will be sent down to Triple-A Iowa on Monday, which is a promotion from Double-A Tennessee.
