The Chicago Cubs will be on the road to open up the 2016 MLB season as the tentative schedule for next year was released on Tuesday. The Cubs will begin the season with a West Coast road trip opening up on Tuesday, April 5 in Anaheim vs. the Angels.
It will be the first time the Cubs open up the season with an interleague game and the 11th time in the last 15 years they will open on the road. After the two games, the Cubs will continue the road trip with a three-game series is Arizona.
The home opener for the Cubs will be on Monday, April 11 when the host the Cincinnati Reds in a night game. It will be back-to-back years the Cubs will open the home schedule with a night game.
The annual Crosstown Classic will add another chapter as the Cubs and Chicago White Sox will play four games this season, each hosting two and all will be consecutive. The Cubs will travel across town to U.S. Cellular Field on July 25-26 and then host the White Sox July 27 and 28.
Interleague play will have the Cubs host the Texas Rangers (July 15-17), Seattle Mariners (29-31) and the Angels (Aug. 9-10). They will visit the Oakland Athletics (Aug. 5-7) and the Houston Astros (Sept. 9-11).
The Cubs will also play the final 20 games of the season vs. NL Central opponents and end the season in Cincinnati for a three-game series. You can view the tentative schedule here.
