The Chicago Cubs have another day filled with roster moves. The second time of the season the Cubs have a roster filled day. If you think about it, that’s sad as the season just passed the 1-month mark.
*The Cubs designated relief pitcher Kameron Loe for assignment. The Cubs picked up Loe off of waivers on April 14th from the Seattle Mariners. Low looked alright, but the move does not surprise me. Loe could still be sent down to Triple-A Iowa if he clears waivers and accepts the assignment. By designating Loe for assignment, that opened a slot on the 40-man roster.
*The Cubs called up outfielder Ryan Sweeney from Triple-A Iowa. He was signed to a minor-league deal on April 2nd by the Cubs. Sweeney did not make the Boston Red Sox roster out of spring training and instead of accepting the assignment to Triple-A, he opted for free agency. Sweeney was hitting the ball in Triple-A and why he has been called up.
*With the Cubs calling up Sweeney, Dave Sappelt was optioned to Triple-A Iowa. Sappelt looked good last season when he was called up, but has struggled this season. And with the Cubs not hitting well, he was the odd man out.
*In the final move of the day, the Cubs have called up relief pitcher Rafael Dolis from Triple-A Iowa. Dolis always comes and go and it will be the same case very soon. He most likely will be sent down again when closer Kyuji Fujikawa is ready to be activated off the DL. Fujikawa may be activated off the DL very soon. He’s expected to pitch in a rehab game for Double-A and after that game, he may be headed to Wrigley Field. Of course if everything goes well.
Sadly, expect more days like these just filled with roster moves.
