The one thing the Chicago Cubs front office would like to do a better job with in the Theo Epstein era is developing home grown pitchers. The Cubs have developed the bats through their minor league system in in the draft but now the focus shifts to finding pitchers.
They will now have that chance with right-hander Ryan Jensen, who was selected by the Cubs with the 27th overall pick in the 2019 MLB Draft:
Jensen is coming off a season in which he was named the 2019 Mountain West Pitcher of the Year going 12-1 with an ERA of 2.88 and 107 strikeouts.
He has a big fastball that ranges anywhere from 94 to 98MPH. ESPN’s Keith Law had Jensen as his No. 32 overall prospect while Baseball America had him at No. 102.
Check out this video on the prospect here:
Jensen is projected to be a relief pitcher at the Major League level to start out and could be worked into a future rotation.
