According to Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish, the Chicago Cubs are one of many teams showing interest in relief pitcher Edward Mujica. Cotillo says the Philadelphia Phillies, Cleveland Indians and Baltimore Orioles are showing interest in Mujica as well.
Mujica is a 29-year old (will turn 30 on May 10th) right-handed relief pitcher. Last season, Mujica had a 2.78 earn run average in 65 games/64.2 innings pitched. Mujica also gave up 60 hits, 9 home runs, 5 walks and struck out 46 batters.
Mr. Cotillo says the Los Angeles Angels were interested in Mujica too before they signed relief pitcher Joe Smith. Cotillo also mentions Mujica will likely command a 3-year deal worth 15-16 million, like Smith received.
Mujica would be a good signing to an already weak Cubs’ bullpen. But I don’t know if the Cubs will go to a third year. Mujica does not walk many and that’s what the Cubs need in their bullpen.
