Chicago Cubs beat writer Carrie Muskat is reporting the Cubs have reached an agreement with first round pick Kyle Schwarber. The Cubs took the University of Indiana catcher fourth overall in this years MLB Draft.
The deal is worth $3.125M with almost $1.5M underslot, giving the Cubs close to $1.6M to spend on other draft picks they made. The 6-foot, 240 pound left-handed hitting catcher hit .358 with 14 home runs and 48 RBI. The Cubs took Schwarber with the expectations of another big bat in the lineup.
Schwarber was considered one of the nations top hitters going into the MLB Draft.
