The Chicago Cubs are not hiding the fact that they are targeting relievers during the offseason.
During the 2017 season, the Cubs bullpen struggled aside from closer Wade Davis. Carl Edwards Jr. flashed his potential early in the season but then failed to be consistent as the year went on.
The entire unit struggled in the Cubs two playoff series and it’s time to fix the problem.
Chicago went out and signed Brandon Morrow on Sunday and now it appears as if they have their sights set on two other relievers. CBS Chicago’s Bruce Levine linked the Cubs to Morrow a few days back and now he has another name linked to the team.
Levine reports that the Cubs have Addison Reed on their watch list as a potential replacement in the bullpen:
The Cubs need to fill a void at closer as Wade Davis has hit free agency. A return to Chicago for Davis is still possible, and veterans Addison Reed and Brandon Morrow are high on the Cubs’ wish list.
There hasn’t been much on Davis and his possible return to the Cubs but talk around the closer will likely pickup this week. As for Reed, the 28-year-old pitched for Boston and the New York Mets in 2017 and posted a 2.84 ERA with a WHIP of 1.053.
Chicago isn’t the only team interested in Reed. The St. Louis Cardinals and Washington Nationals both have him on their radar this offseason.
