The Chicago Cubs are expected to promote top prospect SS Javier Baez to Double-A Tennessee today. Baez is the number 1 prospect in the Cubs organization by everyone, including Baseball America and MLB.com. Baez was named the Cubs minor-league player of the month for June.
After a slow start for Baez, he has really picked it up. He won player of the week two times for the FSL and don’t forget, he also had that 4 home game not too long ago. For High-A Daytona, Baez was hitting .300 with 9 home runs and 28 runs batted in. Baez is only 20-years old.
This is big news for the Cubs. He will likely stay at Double-A all season or most of the time and start in Triple-A out of spring training next year. If that’s the case, we can very well see him in Chicago next season. I think that’s the plan the Cubs have in their mind.
We could see more Cubs prospects on the promotion list. Albert Amora could be if he starts to hit again. However, we won’t see Jorge Soler on that list as he’s injured with a stress fracture and a great chance he’s out for the season.
