We all laughed at the PETCOTA prediction of the Chicago Cubs finishing with just 79 wins and a last place finish in the NL Central for 2019. The Cubs struggled out of the gate but turned it around and were 27-18 and on pace for 97 wins on May 21.
But then they struggled, again.
The Cubs are in first place in the NL Central, limping into the All-Star break at 47-43 with a half game lead on the Milwaukee Brewers. They are far off that pace of 97 wins and may struggle to get to their opening line total of 88.5.
With the All-Star Break in full effect, Caesars has updated their win total for MLB teams including the Cubs. They dropped the Cubs win total to just 86.5, two games off their opening line:
To hit that 86.5 win total, the Cubs would have to win 40 of the final 72 games in the second half of the season. That seems doable but with the recent struggles, there are some causes for concern.
Chicago is still the favorite to win the tight race in the NL Central according to oddsmakers with Milwaukee’s win total set now at 82.5.
