After a successful start to the 2017 MLS season, the Chicago Fire got an early goal to get a big decision in the fourth round of the 2017 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
The games only goal came in the 27th minute on Wednesday night as Fire forward Luis Solignac found the back of the net after he lofted the ball over keeper Adam Grinwis.
Chicago held on to the lead despite a few late charges from Saint Louis.
With a big match against New England scheduled for Saturday night, the Fire decided to rest a few key players including Bastian Schweinsteiger. It didn’t matter as they earned the result in the fourth round.
Check out highlights, including Solignac’s goal:
The win advanced the Fire to the Round of 16 but they will be on the road. It was announced Thursday morning that FC Cincinnati will host the Fire in the next round on June 27 or 28.
The two teams were grouped in the South Region along with Atlanta United FC and Miami FC.
