White Sox bullpen remaining strong
The bullpen carried the White Sox in the sweep of the Cubs. With 8.2 innings pitched in two games, the White Sox arms allowed only one run and four hits, helping secure the back-to-back wins.
Moreover, the relievers led right into one another, especially in the 3-1 win when five pitchers provided one inning each. The last two games proved the White Sox have more than enough arms in the bullpen that manager Tony La Russa can rely on in any situation. Liam Hendriks pitched one inning in each of the previous games and earned a save in both outings but Matt Foster has been a pleasant surprise to the staff. Moreover, Reynaldo Lopez has proven he can be the immediate reliever and enter the game in the middle of an inning to get the team out of trouble.

Against the Red Sox, the expectation is that the bullpen will be used often. It’s unlikely the starters will provide longevity and at Fenway Park, the White Sox can quickly gain a lead but will need to preserve it. It will be interesting to see how the relievers are used, most notably, the ones that can get the ball to Hendriks. Foster has established himself as the eighth inning pitcher but will Kendall Graveman see two innings of work? Can Aaron Bummer continue to give the team a scoreless inning as he did against the Cubs? The surplus of arms is ultimately a good problem to have for the White Sox, especially with the injuries the roster is enduring elsewhere.
