The Chicago White Sox made a move this weekend that gives the appearance the front office is finally accepting the fact that a rebuild is their best option.
The South Siders traded reliever Zach Duke to the St. Louis Cardinals for outfield prospect Charlie Tilson. Tilson was currently ranked 12th on MLB.com’s top 30 prospects for the Cardinals.
According to Baseball America’s mid-season update, Tilson was one of the fastest prospects within the St. Louis farm league and has strong contact skills. One area where he can use some improvement is his power with the bat.
MLB.com agrees and adds that Tilson is selective at the plate, is able to lay down a bunt for a hit, and is capable of hitting the ball anywhere throughout the field, but lacks pop with the wood. He has more than enough speed required to play at center field and both reports indicate Tilson has the ability to be at least a fourth outfielder in the majors, maybe even an everyday player geared towards contact, speed and defense.
While the outfield is a spot the White Sox have needed to give some attention, it is unclear at this point whether or not Tilson will make his debut in the majors this season.
