The Chicago White Sox were off to a promising start to their season by winning their first game against the Los Angeles Angels but then lost the series two games to one.
Since then, the White Sox have looked the same as last year, with the offense struggling to score runs and riding a five-game losing streak after getting swept by the Detroit Tigers.
The White Sox will now travel to Cleveland to play the Guardians for a three-game series, with rookie Shane Smith taking the bump for game one.
Before the series, the White Sox will get another arm added to the bullpen while subtracting another to Triple-A Charlotte.
Chicago White Sox add and subtract two left-handers in the bullpen

Before the series against the Guardians, the White Sox added left-hander Tyler Gilbert to their roster after finishing his rehab stint with Triple-A Charlotte.
In a corresponding move to make room for Gilbert on the roster, the White Sox optioned left-hander Brandon Eisert to Charlotte.
“Prior to today’s series opener at Cleveland, the Chicago White Sox returned LHP Tyler Gilbert from his injury rehabilitation assignment at Class AAA Charlotte and reinstated him from the 15-day injured list.

Eisert made three relief appearances this season, having a 12.00 ERA in three innings. Eiserts worst outing came against the Tigers on Friday, where he allowed three runs on five hits in an inning and a third.
Gilbert will provide a good arm out of the pen

Gilbert will add value to the White Sox bullpen, as he has experience working out of there and as a starter.
Gilbert was acquired by the White Sox over the offseason in a trade with the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for minor-league reliever Aaron Combs.
With Philadelphia, the 31-year-old Gilbert made a handful of appearances, having a 3.24 ERA in 8.1 innings.
Given his history of being used as both a starter and reliever, Gilbert could slide into being the team’s long man or provide some spot starts if needed.
The first pitch for the White Sox is this afternoon, and Smith will be squaring off against the Guardians right-hander Ben Lively.
