In a new report released by MLB.com one of the Chicago White Sox players received high praise for his performance.
In a season full of misery in which the Chicago White Sox set the Major League Baseball record with losses in a season with 121 games. Even though the season as a whole was awful, the White Sox star outfielder Luis Robert Jr. received a high honor in MLB.coms new report ranking him as the tenth best centerfielder in the game of baseball.
Luis Robert Jr. career with the Chicago White Sox
The 27-year-old Robert Jr. is one of the Chicago White Sox best players, once being ranked one of the White Sox top rated prospects. Making his Major League Debut during the shortened Covid 2020 season, Robert Jr. went 2-4 against divisional foe the Minnesota Twins.
During the Covid season, Robert Jr. had a decent year for the White Sox hitting 11 HRs, 31 RBI, with a slash line of .233/.302./.436 for an OPS and OPS+ of .738 and 100. That season led Luis Robert Jr. to finishing second in the Rookie of the Year voting and winning his first Gold Glove award.
The 6’2” centerfielders best season with the White Sox came during the 2023 season in which he played in 145 games, hits 38 HRs, had 80 RBI, 20 stolen bases, with a slash line of .264/.315/.542 for and OPS and OPS+ of .857 and 130. Those numbers were good enough for Luis Robert Jr. to finish twelfth in the MVP voting, winning a Silver Slugger and being named an ALL-Star for the first time.
Receiving high praise
In a new report released by MLB.com where they ranked the best centerfielders in the game right now, Luis Robert Jr. was ranked as the tenth best in all of Major League Baseball . It makes sense that Robert Jr. received such high praise since he’s considered a five-tool player and has drawn comparisons to Mike Trout.
A former Gold Glove Robert Jr. even though he had a down year offensively in 2024 and missed time due to injury, Luis Robert Jr. shows whenever he’s on the field that he has the potential and the ability to be the best centerfielder in the game if he can stay healthy.
Outlook for 2025
Subject of trade rumors Luis Robert Jr. could potentially not be with the White Sox come Opening Day with the Toronto Blue Jays showing the strongest interest in acquiring Robert Jr.
Luis Robert Jr. is now the White Sox top asset and best player on their roster. With how skillful and highly thought of Luis Robert Jr. is as a player, he could fetch the White Sox a solid haul in a trade. Teams may be a little wary however to trade for Robert Jr. right now given he missed time last year so they may want to see how he does in the first half.
If that’s the case the White Sox will need Luis Robert Jr. to be the same player he was in 2023 to get back the same type of package back in trade for Robert Jr. like they did for Garrett Crochet. I think it’s highly possible that Luis Robert Jr. returns to form and solidifies himself as the next best centerfielder in todays game.
