These Chicago White Sox prospects received high praise for being one of the best at their positions.
The Chicago White Sox have a ton of young prospect itching to get their shot at making the major league roster for next season. Two of those prospects’ catchers Kyle Teel and Edgar Quero were both rated as one of the best catching prospects coming into this season.
Both Kyle Teel and Edgar Quero rated in the top ten for their position
Both Kyle Teel and Edgar Quero came to the Chicago White Sox organization via trade, Teel from the Boston Red Sox and Quero from the Los Angeles Angels. Both Kyle Teel and Edgar Quero are in the Chicago White Sox top ten prospects as well as being on MLBs top 100 prospects with Teel ranking second overall in the White Sox organization and 25th for the MLB, while Quero is the sixth ranked in the organization and 59th for the top 100.
Edgar Quero, who is a rare switch-hitting catcher, had an exceptional 2024 season playing in 98 games having 98 hits, 16 doubles, 16 HRs, 70 RBI, for a slash line of .280/.366/.463 and an OPS of .829. For Teel, between Double-A Portland and Triple-A Worchester he had 123 hits, 23 doubles, 13 HRs, 78 RBI, 12 stolen bases only being caught 5 times, for a slash line of .288/.386/.433 for an OPS of .819.
In a recent list of the best catching prospects at their position published to MLB.com had both the Chicago White Sox prospects appearing in their top ten with Kyle Teel finishing third and Edgar Quero finishing nineth. According to MLB.com they rated Kyle Teel as having “highest floor” and possibly winning the Rookie of the Year with their being assessment:
“Basallo is blocked by Rutschman, Rushing by Smith and Baldwin by Sean Murphy. Korey Lee is the presumptive Opening Day starter behind the plate on Chicago’s South Side, but the White Sox shouldn’t stand in the way of getting Teel or Edgar Quero looks once they’re ready. Both have Triple-A experience, but we’ll lean on the better overall prospect here as the one more likely to win the job and get enough MLB time to compete for a year-end award.”
What is in store for Kyle Teel and Edgar Quero for 2025?
With the 2025 season fast approaching and spring training being even closer things are starting to get exciting if you’re a Chicago White Sox fan and are looking to see what all these young talented prospects will bring to the team. Both Kyle Teel and Edgar Quero should see a lot of reps in spring training with Teel possibly if all things go well should be on the Opening Day roster.
Kyle Teel doesn’t really have that much more to prove other than can he step up to the challenge and be able to take on facing veteran Major League pitchers. Quero for his part will most likely start the year at Triple-A to get consistent at-bats and work on his defense which is considered his biggest weakness.
