Injuries hurting the White Sox
The injury bug has hit the White Sox more so than most teams in the MLB, and at impactful positions. The start of the season is a great time to see if the roster can gel and where the team is lacking depth. However, the plethora of injuries has made it difficult for manager Tony La Russa to juggle the roster and figure out a viable lineup.
The Jimenez injury most notably stands out. The White Sox will be without their left fielder for six to eight weeks with a hamstring injury. While the team hasn’t had much difficulty finding a left fielder, with Andrew Vaughn and Gavin Sheets splitting starts in the outfield but the lineup has taken a hit. The White Sox have struggled to replace the power in the middle of the lineup and the entire batting order has struggled as a result.
Then there are the starting rotation injuries. The White Sox started the season without Lance Lynn, who isn’t expected to return to the rotation until at least late May. Lynn was one of the finalists last year for the AL Cy Young award and was a pivotal player in the division-winning season. Moreover, Lucas Giolito was pulled early from the opening start of the season and missed a few weeks of action.
Injuries are a part of the game and in a 162-game season, the teams with the most depth end up succeeding. The White Sox depth, however, was immediately tested and the team has understandably struggled.
