The Issues correlating with issues across baseball
After the lockout ended, the MLB was hoping for a strong start to the season. The league was hoping that the game would be exciting, and fans would ignore the other issues that have plagued the game in recent years. Instead, the first month of the season was a grim reminder of why baseball is different in April.
The weather is awful around the league. Chicago has been no exception with the weather affecting the games and the White Sox alike. Runs are down across baseball and there have been many culprits but among them has been the weather.
Then there’s the issue with the ball itself. The ball has been a much-discussed topic in the MLB largely because of runs being down and contact becoming a rarity. These might sound like excuses for a White Sox team that is playing poorly and underachieving. However, the White Sox are a team that lives off hard contact and powering the ball over the fences. The lineup struggling early on in the season has been a testament to some of the issues across the MLB.
The White Sox are still the most talented team in their division. While the first month was a brutal one for the team, the roster is expected to rebound. Moreover, with the warm weather ahead the long fly balls look to carry at Guaranteed Rate Field.
