White Sox waste Giolito’s strong start
Lucas Giolito started his first game since leaving the Opening Day start early. The White Sox were hoping to salvage a tough weekend with a promising start, and they received just that. Giolito looked like he hadn’t missed a step, pitching four innings with only one run allowed while striking out nine Twins.
Aside from the strong innings, Giolito’s pitches were superb hinting he is ready to carry the starting rotation again. Giolito commanded and located his fastball throughout the start, throwing the pitch 37 times of his 76 pitches, leading to the majority of his strikeouts. The start was brief for the right-hander but one the White Sox desperately needed, knowing they have their reliable starter back in the rotation.

The strong start from Giolito would have been a nice way to cap off the weekend. Unfortunately, the misery had to continue as the White Sox bullpen couldn’t hold the 3-1 lead in the seventh inning. Byron Buxton took the White Sox relievers deep twice and batted in five runs in the process to give the Twins a 6-4 win in extra innings. On a weekend where everything seemed to go wrong, the bullpen, which was a strength of the team a few weeks ago, unraveled.
