Per reports, the Chicago White Sox plan to promote pitcher Frankie Montas for the team’s doubleheader against the Kansas City Royals on Friday. Prior to this season, Montas was rated as the White Sox’ No. 5 prospect and has done nothing in 2015 to make the rating look unwarranted.
Montas has put up strong numbers in Double-A this season, pitching to a 2.47 ERA across 15 starts and holding opponents to a .202 batting average. Montas turned heads during the Futures Game where, despite a lackluster performance overall, he consistently broke 100 mph on his fastball, hitting 101 mph on three consecutive pitches.
It appears that Montas will only be used for the doubleheader before returning to the minors.
