The Chicago White Sox have one of the best farm systems in baseball, and that talent will be hitting the big leagues soon. Here’s a look at Chicago’s four highest-ranked outfield prospects, Per MLB.com:
Braden Montgomery (No. 5 Prospect)
Montgomery, a switch-hitter, is one of the most dynamic prospects in baseball. Standing 6’2″ and 220 pounds, he combines plus raw power with excellent plate discipline, making him a consistent offensive force. Montgomery’s ability to drive the ball to all fields and handle premium velocity sets him apart.
Defensively, he’s a natural in right field, showcasing a strong, accurate arm and above-average range. His athleticism also allows him to cover center field if needed. On the bases, he’s an efficient runner, adding an extra dimension to his game.
At 21, Montgomery’s polish at the plate and defensive versatility make him a high-upside, low-risk player who projects as a future middle-of-the-order bat and Gold Glove contender. With continued refinement in pitch recognition, he could emerge as a cornerstone for the Chicago White Sox at the major league level.
George Wolkow (No. 9 Prospect)
George Wolkow is a massive 6’7,” 240 lb. presence. He stands out for his rare combination of size, power, and athleticism. At the plate, he generates tremendous raw power, regularly driving balls deep to all fields. Though he has made strides in pitch recognition, swing-and-miss issues remain as he continues to refine his approach.
Defensively, Wolkow’s speed and instincts make him an asset in a corner outfield spot, though his range could be stretched in center. His strong arm profiles well in right field, adding to his defensive value.
At just 18 years of age, Wolkow’s potential is immense. If he can improve his contact rate and maintain his athleticism as he fills out his frame, he has the tools to develop into a middle-of-the-order impact player with the ability to contribute on both sides of the ball.
Samuel Zavala (No. 20 Prospect)
Zavala, a left-handed hitter, is known for his advanced approach at the plate and impressive bat-to-ball skills. At 20 years old, he consistently demonstrates an ability to drive the ball with authority, showing burgeoning power that could translate to 20+ home runs annually. Zavala’s plate discipline is a standout feature, allowing him to work counts and limit strikeouts effectively.
Defensively, Zavala profiles best in a corner outfield role. His arm strength and instincts are above average, though his speed limits his range slightly. Despite this, his overall defensive skill set remains solid, providing value in the field.
Zavala’s maturity and balanced skill set make him one of the most promising young hitters in the Sox system. With continued physical development and refinement in situational hitting, he projects as an impactful everyday player at the major league level.
Nick McLain (No. 26 Prospect)
McLain has made a name for himself with his high baseball IQ and well-rounded skill set. A switch-hitter, McLain excels at making consistent contact, spraying line drives across the field. While not a power hitter, he’s shown enough gap-to-gap pop to collect extra-base hits regularly. His disciplined approach and speed on the base paths make him a threat at the top of the lineup.
Defensively, McLain is capable in all three outfield spots, with center field being his best fit. His solid range, quick first step, and strong arm provide value across the diamond.
At 22, McLain’s polished approach and versatility give him a high floor as a major leaguer. Continued development in his power and consistency will determine whether he evolves into a starter or serves as a valuable utility player.
