Chris Coghlan is officially back with the Chicago Cubs.
The Cubs re-acquired the outfielder from the Oakland Athletics in exchange for prospect Arismendy Alcantara on Thursday. Coghlan was traded to Oakland from Chicago back in February in exchange for Aaron Brooks.
Coghlan spent the 2014 and 2015 season with the Cubs, hitting .265 with 25 home runs and 82 RBI’s. He’s brought back for depth as outfielder Jorge Soler went on the DL and a stint for Tommy La Stella coming.

For Alcantara, he had a brief stint with the Cubs in 2014 and 2015 but was sent down and never returned. With the depth of the Cubs, it was likely Alcantara would not see the big leagues again with the Cubs. Instead he will get his chance in Oakland, but will join the team’s minor league affiliate in Nashville first.
