If you decide to attend a Chicago Cubs game the rest of the season, you’ll be noticing even more construction around the ballpark.
A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Thursday for the new Addison Park & Clark which will feature rental apartments and retail shops. It was also announced on Thursday that the building will hold a 10-screen movie theater, the first multi-screen theater in the Lakeview neighborhood.
The location, less than a block from the Addison Red Line CTA stop, will also hold over 400 parking spaces. Here are a few renderings of the new building via M&R Development and Bucksbaum Retail Properties.
As you can see, Sports World and Luis Auto Repair will not be demolished and will remain in their current locations. The new complex will be built around the two buildings (as seen in first photo).
The new project will bring 400 permanent jobs and 200 construction jobs. The apartment complex is expected to have 148 units in it. The project will likely cause some traffic problems in the area, including on game days. It’s already a mess getting out of Wrigley Field on the day or night of a game, so expect it to get worse.
Construction still continues on a the new plaza building on right next to Wrigley Field. Work continues on the grounds of the old McDonalds for the new hotel the Cubs are building.
