For the first time in months Corey Crawford made an appearance in front of reporters for a press conference before the start of the Blackhawks Convention on Friday.
Crawford spent most of the conference dancing around questions surrounding his health. Crawford mostly reiterated Quenneville’s comments at the end of the season.
“I’m feeling pretty good right now,” Crawford said via Jimmy Greenfield of the Chicago Tribune. “I’m not 100 percent, but we have come a long way in the last couple of months and worked really hard to do whatever I can to get better. I’m excited to be here right now and see all the guys and get that feeling of being back in it.”
Crawford hasn’t played a game since December 23rd and has only seen limited ice time since.
At this point it looks like Cam Ward will be the starter for game one and rightfully so. It’s pretty clear Crawford still needs more time, we can’t expect Crawford to be in the same shape if he hasn’t had much ice time all summer.
The Cam Ward signing may prove to be a good move for the Blackhawks if Crawford will miss the first few months. The Blackhawks cannot afford to rely on Anton Forsberg for anything this season after last seasons disaster.
Hopefully we’ll know more closer to preseason, until then we still have more questions than answers.
