Chicago Blackhawks goalie Corey Crawford was back on the ice today for the first time since he was placed on injured reserve on December 27th.
Crawford has been dealing with post-concussion syndrome and it still isn’t clear when the goalie will be cleared to play. But with a big second half of the NHL season here, the Blackhawks would love to have Crawford back for a potential boost to their playoff chances.
The Athletic’s Scott Powers posted this video of Crawford on the ice Monday:

It’s a great sign that Crawford is back on the ice making some saves and handling the puck. Coach Joel Quenneville is still reluctant to set a timetable for Crawford’s return, instead, he said we’ll be able to know more once Crawford is able to attend full team practice.
It doesn’t look like Crawford will miss the rest of the season after all.
The Blackhawks have been hurting without Crawford in net, sporting a 7-7-3 record and are now dead last in the Central Division. Crawford will definitely help the Blackhawks win more games if he’s able to return to the All-Star caliber form he was in at the beginning of the season.
Unfortunately, it seems that the best thing the Blackhawks can do now is wait until Crawford is completely healthy and start preparing for next season. This all hinges on when Crawford is able to come back, if it’s a few more weeks it’s likely too late for saving the Blackhawks season.
