With so many top prospects on MLB.com top 100 list the Chicago White Sox are primed to have one of them take home this year American League Rookie of the Year award.
The Chicago White Sox with being as bad as they’ve been for some time, have acquired a ton of prospects through trades, in order to restock their farm system giving them one of the best in all of Major League Baseball. With having such a successful and plentiful system of young prospects some figure to graduate this season from the minors and contribute this season for the Chicago White Sox at the big-league level. In a recent article published by Jonathan Mayo of MLB.com polled MLB executives asking who they thought this year’s American League Rookie of the Year will be.
Potential Chicago White Sox Rookie of the Year?
The Chicago White Sox newly acquired catching prospect Kyle Teel who was acquired in the deal that sent Garrett Crochet to the Boston Red Sox, received votes from Jonathon Mayo’s poll of him possibly being a candidate to win this year’s Rookie of the Year award. Kyle Teel’s potential teammate in the future Chicago White Sox number four overall prospect Colson Montgomery, who was also predicted to potentially win the award.
The 23-year-old Kyle Teel is projected to be a potential star once he is in the major leagues with Teel grading well on his scouting report from the MLB. The MLB grades on a scale from 20-80 with 80 being the best grade a player can receive. Kyle Teel’s best quality he has going for him is his arm which grades out at 65/80. Other notable grades to point out are his hit ability which is at a 55/80 and he is graded at a 50/80 for his run.
With only being drafted a year and a half ago Teel has had very little time down on the farm to rack up stats, but in his short time on the farm he didn’t fail to impress. So far in his two seasons for his minor league career Teel has a slash line of .301/.404/.444 with an OPS of .848. For 2024 Teel showed that he was better with the bat than what his grades had him pegged for. In in 112 games played which he split his time between Double-A Portland and Triple-A Worchester Teel had 123 hits, 23 doubles, 13 HRs, 78 RBI, for a slash line of .288/.386/.433 for an OPS of .819.
Could Kyle Teel win the Rookie of the Year?
Currently the Chicago White Sox have Korey Lee as their starter, but Kyle Teel may give him so competition during spring training with Teel saying he should be in big-league spring training camp for this season. Lee for his part with the White Sox last year in 125 games Lee only managed to hit .210/.244/.347 and an OPS of .591. Still just 26-years-old Lee could turn it around at the plate and with him showing the ability to play other positions during his time in the minor leagues, the White Sox could figure to move him somewhere else in favor of Teel behind the plate.
With Teel projected to be in big-league camp for this spring to compete for a spot on the Major League roster, Teel will have a good of a chance to make the Chicago White Sox 26-man roster out of spring training. If Kyle Teel can carry over the success, he had down in the minor leagues so far into spring training and into the season, then he should give his former teammate and the Boston Red Sox top prospect Roman Anthony a run for his money.
