All is good in the city of Chicago, The Hawks won the Stanley Cup 2 nights ago and held their parade today. Also the South Siders put a beatdown on the North Siders with a 10-5 win Friday afternoon. In the last 4 contest against the Loveable Losers the Sox are 4-0.
It didn’t take long for the Sox to start there beatdown of the Cubbies. Andruw Jones started everything off in the top of the 1st with an RBI single that scored Rios and advanced Paulie to 3rd. AJ Pierzynski then stepped up and knocked in Paulie advancing to 3rd. AJ has been killing the ball since the trade rumors started surfacing. Maybe he he is trying to prove to Kenny Williams he wants to stay in Chicago? It didn’t take long though for the Cubs to tie hit up, Alfonso Soriano took Peavy deep to center(429 feet) to make it a 2-2 game.
MVP hopeful Paul Konerko then made Randy Wells pay leaving the ball up in the zone as he ripped a double to left scoring Alexei Ramirez and Alex Rios. It was AJ in the 5th again as he scored Konerko with an RBI doublke of his own. I think AJ likes Wrigley. Well if you thought AJ liked Wrigley after that, there was more reason to bleieve it as he homered to deep right field to make it 6-2. Quentin felt like showing up his buddy so in the 8th he took a ball to deep left field to make it 7-2. Later in the inning Alexei Ramirez doubled to left scoring Juan Pierre and Rios knocked in Alexei with a 2 run home run.
The Cubs made things interesting in the 8th as they made it 10-4 on the throwing error by Nix. Jeff Baker then singled to score Soriano which made it a 10-5. Things got even more hectic when Scott Linebrink walked Castro and then walked Fukudome. He did record one out but Ozzie decided it was time for the wide and tall guy, Bobby Jenks. The first batter that Jenks faced he got to ground out and he eventually struck out Derek lee to end the game.
Jake Peavy was very solid in his first career start at Wrigley as a member of the Sox. Jake went 7 innings giving up only 2 runs on 6 hits. He is now .500 with a 5-5 record. The bullpen tried to lose this game for Peavy it seemed. Tony Pena gave up 2 runs on 2 hits in just .1 innings of work. Scott Linebrink walked 2 in the 9th but was bailed out by Bobby Jenks.
MVP of the Game: Alex Rios, Alex was 4-4 with 2 RBI, a walk and a run. Also had a 2 run home run.
The Sox will take on the Cubs at 3:10 on FOX tomorrow when Mark Buehrle(3-6) takes on Carlos Silva(8-0).
