The Chicago Cubs aren’t done spending yet.
After signing John Lackey and Ben Zobrist to deals as well as trading Starling Castro to the New York Yankees, the Cubs offseason isn’t close to being over. The Cubs are reportedly one of the finalists to land free agent outfielder Jason Heyward according to reports.

The Cubs have been rumored to be in on Heyward for days now, and the talks are heating up at the MLB’s Winter Meetings. The 26-year-old Heyward is likely looking for a huge contract and it’s been rumored he’s searching for a deal that is close to 10 years. According to Jenifer Langosch of Cardinals.com, there’s no word on when Heyward will sign:

What makes it more interesting is the Cardinals are another finalist in the sweepstakes, heating this rivalry up a notch. Now whether or not the Cubs will offer him a deal of that large, or if they are just simply driving up the price for their rivals, but one thing is certain: the Cubs are at least attempting to make that big offseason push.
If the Cubs do end up signing Heyward, it will be interesting to see what they do with their outfield. They could try Heyward in centerfield and keep Jorge Soler. Or they could try and deal Soler for a big arm.
