The Chicago Cubs hope to stay hot at home against the Astros. The Astros are struggling to say the least. The Cubs will look to win the series with hopes of sweeping the Astros, who have only 1 win on the 2010 campaign.
Here’s a look at this weekends pitching match ups –
Friday 1:20 PM – Cubs: Carlos Silva (0-0) vs Astros: Felipe Paulino (0-0)
Silva had to remove himself from his season debut due to a shoulder problem. Silva pitched surprisingly well in his debut but wasn’t rewarded for his effort due to the bullpen faltering late in the game. Silva may be bumped to the ‘pen in the next few weeks when Ted Lilly makes his return.
Saturday 12:05 PM – Cubs: Tom Gorzelanny (0-0) vs. Astros: Roy Oswalt (0-2)
Gorzelanny much like Silva pitched well in his last start but didn’t receive a win due to a Reds late rally against the bullpen. Gorzelanny will need to be on the top of his game, because he’ll be facing the Astros ace. Oswalt remains Houston’s ace and can be electric when healthy.
Sunday 1:20 PM – Cubs: Ryan Dempster (1-0) vs. Astros: Wandy Rodriguez (0-2)
Dempster is coming off his 1st win of the season, but he didn’t have his best stuff. He allowed 5 runs against the Brewers, but the Cubs offense belted 3 home runs to secure the victory in the home opener. Dempster will look to be more aggresive against the struggling ‘Stros.
After wrapping up the series with Houston, Chicago will pack their bags and head to New York to face the Mets.
