Chicago — On a touching night to honor Cub legend Ron Santo’s 50 years in baseball the Cubs left 7 on base and lost to the Pirates for the 8th time in 10 tries this season. Paul Malhom (5-6) handcuffed the Cubs for 8 innings allowing just one run on 7 hits. Randy Wells held the Pirates to just one over 6 innings allowing only 3 hits. Andrew Cashner suffered his second loss in 3 days after Carlos Marmol allowed an inherited runner to score. The Cubs now lead the major leagues in one run games with 29 and are 11-18 in those affairs.
Tomorrow Carlos Zambrano will be place on Major League Baseball’s Restricted List and reliever Jeff Stevens will be recalled from Iowa. Zambrano will be meeting with MLB and Players Association approved doctors to determine a treatment plan for his anger issues. The Cubs do not expect Zambrano to be back until after the All-Star break.
