According to Cubs insider Patrick Mooney, the Chicago Cubs designated outfielder Nate Schierholtz for assignment on Wednesday and activated relief pitcher Kyuji Fujikawa from the disabled list.
Schierholtz struggled this year with the Cubs hitting .192 with six home runs and 33 RBI’s. Last season he hit a career high 21 home runs with 68 RBI’s but just couldn’t get it going this season. He is an outstanding fielder and will make a great pick-up for a team chasing the playoffs.
Fujikawa is coming off Tommy John surgery about 14 months ago and has pitched for three minor league teams in a rehab stint. He pitched 11 2/3 innings with a 0.77 ERA. The Cubs signed Fujikawa to a two-year contract worth 9.5 million dollars before the start of last season.
